real love seeks all good

Just read this from the book Dream Small: The Secret Power of the Ordinary Christian Life:

"My deepest needs for forgiveness and life have been met in my Saviour, and the same can be true for anyone who comes to him. Every person in the world needs this life more than anything else the world has to offer. Every person in the world is eligible for God’s eternal feast, if they will only come. But how will they know that unless someone tells them (Romans 10:14)? How could we ever withhold from anyone their invitation to God’s eternal feast of life?

There is no greater gift we could ever give, and no gift that is more needed. But then, sometimes people need more than that feast—sometimes they also need dinner. Or a winter coat. Or someone to visit them in prison and remind them that their life matters. By providing these things, we could be the ones to give them an appetiser of the life and love that they can find in God. Real love does not seek only one kind of good or another, spiritual or physical, eternal or temporal—it seeks all good, always. For everyone

As long as you live on earth there will be real needs all around you. Everyone everywhere needs the gospel, and physical needs like the ones Jesus spoke about are everywhere as well. Maybe they are in the areas of town you drive through without thinking about the people you’re driving past. Maybe they are behind the closed doors of neighbours whose actual reality does not match their immaculately cultivated facade. One thing is certain: They are nearby. If you do not see them, it is not because they have ceased to exist. It is because your eyes are pointed in the wrong direction. All you need to do is look."
