Reminds me that...in the same way, we are guilty before God. Yes, we did not take billions of dollars for ourselves, but we all have the same selfish heart. We all want to live our lives our way. Justice would be: Us receiving the punishment we deserve as God's wrath is poured out.
But! "Mercy is not getting what we deserve; grace is getting what we don't deserve". God did not punish us. Then where is justice? God's own son received the punishment in our place. I imagine it as someone who has been guiltless his whole life standing up and saying "I'll go to jail and pay for what this leader of the country has done! I'll pay the price for him." After that, the culprit has 2 choices: Accept what this perfect man has done for him and turn away from his wicked ways, or reject him and receive the consequences himself.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8Thank you, Jesus!
